Most of the metro lakes froze over a week ago or more but several of the larger lakes and bays have only had ice for a few days. Conditions vary so use extreme caution. The majority of Lake Minnetonka froze last Thursday and Friday but reports of some open water remain. I made it out on a small lake in the north/west metro and had about 5 inches of ice. I only had about forty five minutes to fish but i did mange to catch one nice gill. It felt good to watch a mark come in and eat the bait. Looking forward to getting back out and trying it again. We should have reports coming from Minnetonka soon. Word from the Brainerd area is similar to what were seeing here in the metro. Gull Lake still had open patches as late as Friday but smaller lakes and bays had up to 7 inches of ice. Fishing was generally slow with reports of limited success. The warm up this week should improve the bite. Good luck and be safe.
