Well, I'm glad that's over. We finished in 2oth place today with 8 fish for just over 20lbs. It took about 23 lbs to make the $ and 26+ to win. Congratulations to Mike Vinci and Paul Neuman for the victory. Due to our low finish we got bumped out of the tournament of champions by just a few points as well.
We got off to a good start taking two nice fish, a 3 1/2 and 3 3/34, off the first set of docks we fished. We were throwing weightless five inch All Terrain sticks on 3/0 Gami EWG's. On the next two strings of docks we only caught one more and it was about 2 lbs. Next we headed to some shallow pad and slop fish I had found on Saturday. After six spots and a couple of hours we had only caught a couple of 1 1/2 lbers and one more 2. Late in the day after fishing more deep and shallow spots we added a nice 4lber on a jig in the milfoil.
All in all, we had on OK day but we just did not have a good feel for what the fish were doing. In practice, we caught a few decent fish doing several different things which is pretty typical for early fall. The extra warm weather seemed to keep a lot of fish out deep which we did not take advantage of. Good luck to the top 12 who made the TOC and the two wild cards. I think I'm muskie fishing tomorrow so I hope to have something more to report.
